TREND ALERT: EMBROIDERED DENIM.

I'm the first to say that I never thought denim could be improved upon. Then along came embroidered denim. And embellished. And well any number of other additions one could ever imagine.

Now that's not to say that these will ever replace our good ol' classic pair of baby blues (and blacks, and mid blues and dark blues). But for a change, denim is now becoming a statement in and of itself. And I'm on board.

By now you've already seen my incredible embellished denim jacket custom made by Hatrik. Well now these jeans are coming in hot (if you looked closely, you'll get my pun). Everything from the colour, cut (high waist, straight leg, stepped hem), right down to the rose and chilli (now you get it) embroidery, is perfect in my eyes.

What I like about this new trend so much, is that it's a pretty perfect match for someone like me who has a pretty minimalist wardrobe and almost avoids too much colour or print. But done right, embroidered denim effortlessly dresses up a seemingly basic outfit.

TOP TIPS WHEN BUYING EMBROIDERED DENIM

1. Start small -
Even though making a statement is kind of the idea here, I think the rule of 'less is more' is pretty valuable here. Too much of a good thing can definitely go astray, and particularly when trying out a new trend you are more likely to wear it/not waste money by easing yourself into it.

2. Choose your print carefully-
Again something so right, can be so wrong if you don't choose something that makes sense for your style, personality and even age. I think one of the risks of this trend is going too child-like with the style of embroidery.  As above, a simple, small motif can be highly effective. And if you're not the kind of person to rock an out-there statement print, then don't. If you want something reminiscent of the 70's flower child era, then find that. Of course I'm all about challenging your style and breaking out of your norm, but if it isn't the essence of you, then you're missing the point and won't feel like yourself.

3. Think beyond jeans alone-
Denim jackets are always having their moment, so maybe this is the way to go for you. Or even a denim skirt. Or shorts. There are some good things happening out there from a number of labels, so keep your eyes peeled and find what works for you. Or DIY. I'm not the person to give advice on this, but if you are a talented human being, then you should definitely go ahead and make your own shit.
