SAMOA.

Samoa. An untouched paradise.

This was part one of our honeymoon adventures, and it was everything I’d hoped for and more.

A lush, tropical paradise.

Palm trees everywhere, like seriously everywhere. I’ve never seen so many in my life.

Beyond the palm trees, Samoa has the most raw, untouched, natural beauty and the most incredibly friendly people, its hard to believe a place like this actually exists.

The first place we stayed was Lupesina Treesort. Yes, we stayed in an actual treehouse. It has a spectacular view looking over the south end of the island.

The styling is very humble and homey, but the experience is worth it for a night or two.

We then moved onto Sa’moana Resort.

Surf vibes and cute little beach shacks on the sand with incredible volcanic rock outdoor showers. They are well set up for activities i.e. kayaking, snorkelling, surfing and oh, the infinity rock pool is beyond dreamy.

Plus banana fries. Yes, you heard right. Like a potato fries but better. They are made from a different kind of banana than we see in the supermarket here in aus, and they basically bake them when there are not yet ripe to create one of the best things I have ever tasted.

My top travel tips and things to see/do

1. Hire a car.

Samoa is small and really the best way to see and experience it is to hire a car and drive around. This way you can stop in at all the beautiful waterfalls and viewing points (and believe me, there are many).

2. To Sua Ocean Trench

As breathtaking as you would imagine. Try your best to time it with the tide, we went twice and higher tide was better than low tide.

3. Left of the trench = Heaven

If you walk down the hill left of the trench there are these beautiful rockpools, with the clearest water and surrounded by lush jungle. It’s so surreal.

4. Waterfall Trek

This was my favourite thing that we did. 5 hours total. Trekking up river, through jungle and jumping off a dozen waterfalls. You kind of only really hear about it via word of mouth when you’re on the island, so definitely worth tracking down.

Most important travel tip… Just go there.

Hi! I am thinking of planning a little getting away from NZ and tossing up between Bali and Samoa. I have been to Bali before and love it, and the food is amazing however Samoa is much closer and would be something different – plus your photos make it incredibly tempting. In your opinion which place would you rate more highly? I am guessing there is a lot more to do in Bali and more food/atmosphere but Samoa would be more of a quiet escape. Would love your tips. L x
