A NEW CASE FOR CROCHET.

Crochet.

It's one of those on-again-off-again trends, that's had quite the resurgence in the last few years. It's a trend thats reminisce of simpler times and the flower child era. But often  modern takes on this vintage style can get a little boxed into a more bohemian, festival only look.

Personally, I had my moment with crochet a few years back, and then moved on. Aside from swimwear, because there is something oh-so-dreamy about a crochet bikini. But lately, it has caught my attention again... Maybe it's the Byron Bay vibes rubbing off on me or something.

But this time around, it's all about keeping things simple, effortless and a little more streamline then all out boho.

I think the key to making these somewhat fleeting trends work for you is all about keeping things simple and in-line with your own personal style. Unless your style is the opposite of simple... then do that. But for me, bringing this trend into the now means pairing it back with denim and a slightly sporty touch.

Top tips for styling crochet (sans boho)

1. Neutral colours - the easiest way to make this trend versatile and less of a flower-child statement is opting for neutral colours. Black, white/cream or a taupe colour are my top picks. This way the piece can slide right into your wardrobe and your simplifying the statement you want to make (i.e. crochet vs colour)

2. Less is More - Keep things simple by pairing your favourite crochet piece with wardrobe staples like a classic fit of denim. Instead of running away with full on bohemian pieces, pair a crochet skirt back with a tailored shirt or vintage band t-shirt.

3. The unexpected shoe - Go on a visual journey with me, if you will... Imagine the above look I styled, with a sandal. Totally different vibe right? Now, thats not to say its a bad vibe, but definitely more beachy/boho. Instead, mixing this look up with a classic white sneaker or even a sleek pair of boots keeps the look more streamline. The same would go for crochet dress or skirt.

4. Check your weave - Nope, not the hair variety, the weave style of crochet. Personally I'd steer clear of anything involving a floral motif. Also tighter style of weave is probably more versatile and less skin baring (it's important that the girls are adequately covered when bringing crochet from the beach to the streets).
