A FRESH TAKE ON THE CLASSIC BLUE JEANS X WHITE SHIRT.

An old favourite in a new way.

Blue jeans, white shirt - a combination that never gets old... And even when it does, it always finds a way to reinvent itself in some shape or form.

So here is my fresh take on the old classic.

I decided to mix in another cult favourite, which is the A-line denim skirt. While the denim skirt has been around forever, it's a very specific cut that has taken the spotlight at the moment. It's kind of the 'boyfriend jean' of the denim skirt world. A little bit slouchy, kind of distressed but not too distressed and for extra credit... vintage (this one is not, but it does a pretty good job of replicating that vibe).

Now, I've already talked about the challenges of finding the perfect white tee as an all-rounder, go with anything and everything style (you can read about that here). This t-shirt (above) is not that t-shirt. But, it certainly takes the plain white tee to a whole other level. While it may not be as versatile as the classic cut, it has certainly become a new favourite in my wardrobe rotation as a way to dress simply, but with a little edge.

Similar to the denim skirt - asymmetrical sleeve/one shoulder tops have been circulating through trends on and off for a number of years. But I had never seen the trend taken on by the humble tee. Throw in an already added cut-out neck detailing so I  don't have to mutilate anymore of my clothes and I was sold!

And what do you know? When you throw these two key pieces together, you end up with the perfect go-to summer outfit.

So now lets talk accessories... Put your hand up if your kind of late to the game in realising the power of simple, but thoughtful accessories? (*Karissa currently has her hand up*). It's definitely not rocket science, but something easily forgotten, at least for me. But when putting together a simple outfit, like a denim skirt and t-shirt, it's really the accessories that lift your street style game.

That said, personally, I can think of nothing worse adding seemingly unnecessary and someti t slide or so).

Belts -  I went through a huge 'belt phase' circa 2006 smack bang in the middle of my op-shopping days (my mum and I did this all the time before it was ever a 'thing'). But then, as most often happens, obsessions fade and practicality prevails. So flashforward to 2016 and belts were again a mere practical necessity during times of poorly fitting pants. But really they can be so much more than that, even their most simple form, as they just add an element of 'togetherness' to your outfit.

Sunglasses-  Again, definitely not rocket science. But while it's essential to have your perfect pair of perfectly fitting sunglasses that meet both aesthetic and practical requirements. Investing (and by this, I don't mean spending a lot of money) in a pair of  statement sunglasses is a worthwhile way to mix up your day to day look and have a little fun. Whether it be a drastic cat eye, a 'John Lennon'-esque round pair or maybe a coloured lens aviator.

Bags - Right now, straw bags are having a moment, and I honestly can't think of any other accessory that instantly evokes summery, holiday vibes. But, there some other great styles floating around whether its some embroidery or studded detailing, or maybe just a print that you love. It's an easy way to mix up your look without adding anything that you don't already need (if you manage to function daily without a handbag, I applaud you, and also please ignore all above comments).
