I love discovering brands that are more than just brands. That are consciously creating with purpose, intention and love.
One of those brands doing wonderful things, and whom I have fallen completely in love with is YCL jewels. As evidenced in the name “your core light“, YCL jewels thoughtfully creates incredible pieces, that beyond being effortless and beautiful to wear, also make you feel something when you wear them. I both never notice that I’m wearing them, as they have just become another part of me, but also feel entirely lost when I’m not.
I’ve never been much a of jewellery person, in that I mostly just always forget to wear it. That and my lifestyle means I generally lose all of it (i.e. in the surf, at waterfalls or rivers) or it annoys me (i.e. when practising yoga). Ear candy has generally been my weapon of choice. Mainly in that I never have to think about putting them in and I rarely change them. But even then, I rarely wear anything other than studs (again very unassuming).
Then I stumbled upon YCL Jewels and found her pretty sparkly things drew me in just like a bowerbird (or do they only collect blue?). And then I discovered her ethos aligned so perfectly with my own… Ethical, cruelty-free jewellery created with intention and conscious of our world (the environment and all that we share it with).
I’ve been wearing these pieces incessantly. Yoga, swimming, surfing. Being gold-fill they don’t tarnish against the salty ocean or my sweat (too much information?….sorry…).
The main thing I want in my jewellery is to almost never have to change it. Pieces that are minimalist, timeless and will go with everything. I want them to add just the right amount of luxe, without being overbearing or over-showy with any outfit. Worn separately or layered together these jewels fit seamlessly into my style and make even the simplest of outfits just that little bit more put together.

If you’re like me, and don’t consider yourself a jewellery person (whether it be for lifestyle or style reasons), I would suggest starting by adorning yourself with something super fine and simple. Something like this or this. From there you have the perfect base to start layering and creating your own little treasure trove should you desire.
