THE MUST-HAVE DENIM SKIRT FOR SUMMER.

Its no secret that I’m a denim girl. Any kind of denim really.

Vintage or vintage look is my general go to. But I’ve recently added another piece to my very extensive list of essential denim items aka the black jean, the mom jean, the light wash jean, the skinny leg, the crop flare, denim shorts, denim jacket and now…

The statement denim skirt.

I’ve talked about my love of embroidered denim a little more in a previous post here (Ps these jeans are now on sale). But it would seem this trend is hanging round a little longer, and customised even further with patches and beading and all the other fun things.

Now I will admit, this is a trend that can definitely be done wrong… But when it’s right, it’s oh so right. And I do believe it possible to invest in a statement piece like this and still have it be wearable for a number of seasons. You just have to be picky about your print and style.

TOP TREND TIPS:

1. Light denim is perfect for summer
It’s timeless wash that transcends each season and you’ll find yourself wearing over and over again.

2. Vintage look A-line cuts for the win
I guess this is mostly personal preference, but I feel the most universally flattering style is a slight A-line cut. I prefer my denim skirts to emulate the ‘boyfriend jeans’ of denim skirts that fit a bit slouchier. A raw edge is optional, but definitely adds that effortless, vintage feel. I would keep other distressing to a minimum though, it changes the look a lot and will inevitably make it less versatile.

3. Party on the sides
A pretty key part to making just the right amount of statement, is placement. Any embroidery detail on the sides is preferable as it is a little more subtle.

4. Florals… for spring… Groundbreaking
I’m definitely not the most florally person and I’m generally not drawn to florals for my wardrobe. But for some reason, I think its a the perfect match for this style. It’s simple,  a little bit feminine, and is a design that won’t date (florals ain’t never going nowhere).

I love the kind of oriental-esque colour way and floral design of this skirt from REVOLVE. But I’ve also seen some beautiful rose designs (here or here) and even daisies for that 70’s vibe (like this here). So there really is something to suit everyone. And also, I know this technically isn’t a skirt… but this jacket is well on my list (cropped…boyfriend….denim…embroidered heaven).

Let me know your thoughts on this trend, would you wear it?
