HOW TO STREAMLINE YOUR STYLE.

It’s the cult brand you probably would have had to be living under a rock to miss. If you don’t know the name, then you would probably recognise the signature star print, floaty girl-next-door style dresses. Or their quintessential raw, imperfectly perfect style of imagery.

Needless to say, every since this brand has entered my wardrobe, its been a hard stretch to get me out of it. Instead of creating collections like most labels, Realisation has focused on creating individual pieces looking to fill those gaps in our wardrobes.

For me the brand epitomises that kind of effortless, French-girl chic. It’s a style I personally adore, but have not quite yet mastered (this brand has definitely brought me a step closer though).

As I get older, I find my personal style is changing more. Well actually, if anything it’s becoming more concrete. In my early 20’s I used to hop from trend-to-trend. And whilst certain elements always held true for me (i.e. a somewhat tomboy, androgynous feel), there was certainly a lot less consistency. And whilst I think those years taught me a lot about style and fashion, these days I’m trying to become more streamline and definitely have a truer sense of my own personal style.

Here is what I have learnt so far about effortless, French-girl-esque style.

TOP TIPS TO STREAMLINE YOUR STYLE.

1. Less is More

Don’t overcomplicate things. Sometimes the simplest of outfits can have greatest of impacts.

2. Don’t over accessorise

That’s not to say don’t accessorise. But be selective. If your outfit already has a lot of detail, maybe don’t add that necklace. But if you’re keeping things simple with a t-shirt and jeans, then a pair of statement(ish) earrings can add a little something something. For me personally, I’m all about dainty, fine jewellery at the moment. Sometimes layered, sometimes worn on their own.

3. Show skin in unexpected ways

I’m definitely all for showing a bit of skin, but I think to keep things classy and Frenchy, its important to be strategic. Showing some leg? Opt for a more conservative top (like a button up tailored shirt) or baggy oversized top/sweater. Or try some less expected ways like showing off your shoulders or a bare back. For the above top, which is quite open at the front, I paired it back with a pair of looser fit vintage denim to add an boyish edge.

4. All neutral everything

I’m trying to challenge myself with colour a bit at the moment (that’s another topic coming soon to tomgirl & threads), but as a general rule, I think keeping to a neutral colour palette (black, white, grey, beige, camel) is a surefire way to create a refined look.

5. Relaxed silhouettes are your friend

Whilst there is always a time and place for form-hugging pieces, relaxed silhouettes are an easy way to create that effortlessly thrown together look (plus think of all the tacos you can eat without the worry of hiding your food baby).

6. Add one unexpected piece

Whether you choose a statement accessory, or wear sneakers with an outfit that you would otherwise opt to pair with boots or heels, I think its always nice to add a bit of intrigue to an other refined outfit.
