Christmas shopping can be painful. Especially when trying to find that perfect, meaningful gift for the treasured people in your life. As I’ve gotten older, it’s definitely a ‘less is more’ approach when buying gifts. Trying to find that one perfect present that either:
a) fulfils a practical need for that person
b) is something they would love and will treasure forever, but may never actually buy for themselves.
I feel a certain anxiety around this time of year with the excessive consumerism that fills the air. As we rush out frantically buying 101 things we don’t need, things will likely end up in landfill a month later (if even that long). So this year, I propose a different strategy. Buy less and buy well.
I’m not going to lie, it takes a little more time than just buying any old thing. And you may spend a little more money (but you’d be surprised how all the little things add up anyway). So I encourage you to buy from local labels, support the creators around you and give the gift of something to be treasured for many years to come.
