BRIDAL BEAUTY: MY SKIN JOURNEY PART I

Wedding planning. It’s dreamy. But it/s also really stressful and overwhelming. You spend months, or in my case years, planning this magical day to celebrate love with close friends and family. And then you get lost in admist the flowers, the dress, the rings, the venue, the vows, the styling, the food, the invites, the programs, the suit that you get custom made… which gets lost after in mascot 15mins after arriving (after 15 stops in china) and the replacement suit… the shoes, the reception dress… oh and not to mention all the logistical pieces that are going to make the day smooth and effortless.

More important than any of this, is to actually stop. Breathe. And enjoy the process of it all.

Something I’ve never really talked or shared, because hey…it sucks… But I’ve never.. ever… Had “nice” or “good” skin. I suffered a lot of breakouts as a teen, as many of us do. And you kind of end of moving through life assuming one day… some day.. It will get better. But then it doesn’t, and next minute you’re in your mid-twenties staring in the mirror at your teenage-like skin asking “why me?”.

I know there are absolutely worse things to deal with, and there are definitely people who have had skin much worse than I ever did. But still these things unquestionably take a toll on your confidence. and so I decided to make my skin a #1 priority as part of my pre-wedding bridal beauty journey.

Enter… THE CLINIC

The skin specialists… focused on evidence-based treatments (those words are music to my ears) to achieve glowing skin.. No makeup skills or magical highlighter necessary.

The team specially designed a treatment plan for me, aimed to even out skin tone, reduce the scarring from hours of pimple squeezing over the years (yep I’m one of those) and just generally get create that bridal glow.

first up… IPL laser.

WHAT IS IT?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a light based therapy. a beam of many different wavelengths of light is absorbed into targeted skin cells to repair damage and breakdown accumulated spots of melanin, such as pigmentation, spotting and redness.

WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?

In summary… Creating smooth skin tone and rejuvenating your skin.

Helps to treat acne, pigmentation, sun damage.

WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?

First you have this cold gel smeared all over your skin. It’s cooling and soothing and more importantly it protects your skin from the intense light. The sensation of the light feel like a very gentle pain, its relaxing in an unusual kind of way.

AFTER IT ALL AKA THE RESULTS

I’m only 1 of 2 treatments. Generally between 1-5 sessions is recommended, however I’ve already noticed some changes in the general clarity of my skin. Day 1, I noticed my skin looking more illuminated. Day 2-4 your skin is kind of getting rid of the stuff that the laser brought out. Day 5 and onwards, skin looks clearer and cleaner. Still some pesky hormonal breakouts now and then, but hey, some stuff can’t be changed. But even with those few minor breakouts, I feel like my skin is more even and calm.

Stay tuned for more of my skin journey and results…

Oh and the wedding countdown that you will be more than sick of by the time it’s finally here…. Apologies in advance.
